Example Tester Interview Questions

Even if you are an experienced interviewee, this information will be a valuable refresher.

Practice and prepare

Practice your responses to typical job interview questions.  Think of concrete examples you can use to highlight your technical skills.  Providing evidence of your achievements is a great way to promote your suitability.

Examples of questions that could be asked for Tester positions could include:

  • What have been your roles and responsibilities in previous testing positions?
  • What is a Test Plan and what does it include?
  • Can you explain what Test Strategy is?
  • Have you written a Test Case?
  • How many test cases did you write in your last project?
  • What document did you use to write the Test Cases?
  • What is BRD (Business Requirement Document)?
  • Are a Test Plan and Test Strategy the same type of document?
  • What are the different types of software testing?
  • What kinds of testing have you done in your previous roles? E.g. SIT/UAT/BVT etc.
  • What is the difference between SIT and UAT?
  • Tell us a bit about your last testing project. How and what did you perform? What was your responsibility in that project?
  • Have you performed Risk based testing? Give an example.
  • How would you perform testing when and if you are not given any documentation or Business Requirement Documents?
  • How will you deliver work in time when you have tight deadlines? Give past experiences in testing.
  • What is SQL?
  • How do you determine what to test in an application?
  • What do you do if you have any questions, who do you ask?
  • What are the basic elements you put in a defect?
  • What is a bug?
  • What is the biggest bug you have ever found?
