How Recruiters find you on LinkedIn?

It’s a fact, 90% of all recruiters and HR professionals use LinkedIn to search for candidates. I suggest job hunters should connect with Recruiters to help them to start a conversation. It’s a win-win for both the recruiter and the job seeker. Below are the few key points recruiters want to see your in profile.

1.      Your Professional Photo

Make sure your picture is clear, simple and professional. This is not the place for selfies, party photos, baby photos or pictures of you in another funky costume. You should be the only one in your picture and it should be recent. Opt for a flattering, professional style photo that best represents you. Skip ones that are poorly cropped or with low-resolution.

2.      Descriptive Headline

Your headline gives you an opportunity to stand out, so take advantage of it. Avoid simply using your job title, go the extra mile to point out your biggest strengths. Use three to five terms that best describe your position, duties, areas of expertise to make your profile more searchable. Remember to use spaces, commas or plus signs instead of slashes, which may interfere with LinkedIn recognizing each word as separate during searches.

The summary is your only opportunity to show a bit of your personality. It should be written in the first person and provide a brief snapshot of who you are and what your experience is. The summary section on LinkedIn is a great place to showcase your achievements and professionals goals. In fact, recruiters consider it the most important section of your profile, according to LinkedIn.

 4.      Experience

Recruiters and others who are looking for people with certain types of experiences will often do a keyword search. However this will only search the work experience part of your profile, not you’re summary. So always mention all your roles and responsibilities with company details.

Given that anyone can endorse anyone else, the legitimacy of this section can be debated. However skill endorsements are a great way to recognize your 1st-degree connections’ skills with one click. They also let your connections validate the strengths found on your own profile. Skill endorsements are a simple and effective way of building your professional brand and engaging your network.

 6.      Recommendations

The more recommendations you have, the higher you’re going to appear in searches and the better you’ll look to recruiters who want to find proven candidates. Ask anyone that you think has something relevant to offer in the way of a recommendation, especially co-workers and managers.

 7.      Contact Information

Recruiters often find candidates through their LinkedIn contacts, especially extended networks. Be sure your contact info (Mobile phone and email address) and the links you include there are up to date.
